Toplam alkalinite, pH'ın ani değişimlere karşı dengede kalmasını sağlar; bir nevi tampon görevi görür. İdeal aralık çoğunlukla 80–120 ppm'dir. Alkalinite doğru ayarlandığında pH'ı dengelemek çok daha kolay olur.

pH — The acid/base balance
pH shows how acidic or basic the water is. The ideal range is usually 7.2–7.6. Too low and the water becomes corrosive and irritates skin and eyes; too high and chlorine loses effectiveness and the water turns cloudy.
Chlorine — Disinfection
Chlorine neutralizes bacteria and microorganisms in the water. Free chlorine is usually kept in the 1–3 ppm range. Too little causes hygiene problems, while too much causes odor and irritation.
Alkalinity — The pH buffer
Total alkalinity keeps pH stable against sudden swings, acting as a buffer. The ideal range is mostly 80–120 ppm. When alkalinity is set correctly, balancing pH becomes much easier.
Practical tip
Measure the values regularly with a test kit and adjust alkalinity first, then pH, and chlorine last. Regular testing is the cheapest way to catch problems before they grow.
