1. Cleaning and water balance
Before closing, thoroughly clean the surface and floor and balance the water chemistry. A pool closed with balanced water has a lower risk of algae and staining over winter.
2. Adjusting the water level
Depending on the local climate, the water level is usually lowered somewhat. Where there is a risk of freezing, this step is important to prevent damage to pipes and the structure.
3. Protecting the equipment
Draining the water from the pump, filter and lines prevents freeze-related cracks. Equipment should be cleaned and stored dry and protected.
4. Covering the pool
A suitable pool cover keeps leaves, dirt and precipitation out of the water. This noticeably reduces the work needed in spring.
