The pump: the heart of the system
The pump draws pool water, sends it to the filter and then back to the pool. Without this circulation, chemicals don't distribute evenly and the water stagnates. Running the pump enough hours a day is the foundation of cleanliness.
The filter: where dirt is caught
The filter traps particles in the water. The most common types are sand, cartridge and diatomaceous earth (D.E.) filters; each has a different cleaning method and level of fineness. A clogged filter reduces flow and lowers efficiency.
Why does circulation matter?
In a well-designed system, water is drawn from drains and skimmers and returned through jets, circulating throughout the entire pool. Leaving no dead zones prevents algae and cloudiness from the start.
Maintenance tip
Clean the filter at the intervals the manufacturer recommends and monitor the pump's sound and pressure. A sudden rise in pressure usually means the filter needs cleaning.
